THE JOURNEY · SEVEN DAYS ACROSS ATLAS & SAHARA

DAY 1 · CASABLANCA TO MIDELT

Meet the group in Casablanca and travel through the Middle Atlas toward Midelt. Watch the landscape change on the mountain drive, settle in, and enjoy a welcome orientation and Amazigh dinner.

DAY 2 · ZIZ GORGE TO MERZOUGA

Follow the dramatic Ziz Gorge south, with stops for geological interpretation and photography. Pass palm oases on the way to Merzouga and arrive in time for sunset over the Erg Chebbi dunes.

DAY 3 · SAHARA DESERT CAMP & DUNES

Explore how the dunes form, ride camels into the desert, and spend the evening under the stars with local music and storytelling. Sandboarding or an ATV outing may be available as optional activities.

DAY 4 · AOULI & MIBLADEN MINING DISTRICTS

Return toward Midelt for a guided look at the historic Aouli and Mibladen mining districts. Meet local experts, learn the mining story of the region, and have time to purchase minerals at the source if desired.

DAY 5 · MIDELT FOSSILS & FIELD TIME

Spend the day at fossil sites and outcrops around Midelt with hands-on geology lessons and guided rockhounding. Meet mountain hosts over tea and visit artisan workshops as the route allows.

DAY 6 · MEKNES: IMPERIAL CITY

Travel to Meknes for a change of pace. Explore the medina and souks, see the monumental gates and royal granaries, and enjoy local food and Moroccan cultural encounters.

DAY 7 · VOLUBILIS, MOULAY IDRISS & CASABLANCA

Visit the Roman ruins of Volubilis and nearby Moulay Idriss before returning to Casablanca. Departure arrangements will follow the final group schedule.

The order of stops, access, activities, and accommodations may change with weather, local conditions, and the final 2027 plan; confirmed details will be shared before departure.

FIELD NOTES FROM THE ROUTE

Across the Middle Atlas, volcanic plateaus, raised ancient seabeds, and faulted peaks make the drive itself part of the geology lesson. In the Ziz Gorge, we will read the exposed layers before passing palm oases and fortified villages on the way to the Sahara.

Around Midelt, the historic Aouli and Mibladen districts bring mineral collecting, local mining history, and the people behind the trade together. At fossil-bearing outcrops, field lessons connect Morocco’s ancient seas with the landscapes we see today. Exact collecting stops depend on access and conditions.

The route also makes room for Moroccan life: an Amazigh welcome dinner, tea with mountain hosts, the medina and food of Meknes, and the historic sites of Volubilis and Moulay Idriss. Small groups allow time for questions, photography, and shared discoveries.
